Arsenal Mania: Articles - Platini says big-spending clubs could be expelled

  • mjc · 4 months ago
All UEFA need to do is change the qualification terms for the Champions League. Simply subtract 1 point for every % above 50% that each club spend on player wages (as a proportion of total income). Suddenly, Chelsea and Man City would have to score an extra 20 or 30 points to get into the Champions League places, and financial doping has an antidote.

No mention of Real Madrid then?

Have a feeling they will be looked at as well.

If you read the whole article, they mention Real Madrid..

It could be that there is only Arsenal in the Champions League, in the years to come, if Platini gets his way.

That diving thing has really ticked me off. When steven gerrard does it its good play but when we have an isolated incident, the whole club should be banned from the champions league and all because celtic couldn't take their beating...

I figured Platini would be reviewing the incident. I expect him to ban Eduardo for two matches as well. Backlash will come swift and hard if he doesn't. We still go through no matter what. Take the penalty away and we still win 4-1 on Agg. Celtic fans are bitter and we would be too if it were reversed. Just glad to see Arsenal are through.

There are already rules for this, concerning debt and re-payment, have been around for 3 years. Under them, Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid should already be banned from playing. Do you really think that UEFA are going to inforce this or any other rule that stops the clubs with the biggest TV draw and global interest from taking part, No, of course not, the G14 would just threaten to form own league again and UEFA would fold just has it has done in the past.

as mentioned by wenger in the times article, how will he treat French clubs who dont have to pay for their stadium when arsenal have to stump up over 250mil

Don't know if it will fly... because most of the CL revenue generating club are in debt. How many top club are really not borrowing or spending money beyond their means or in debt. What if Abramovich say chelsea is part of his conglomarate, and other part of his conglomarate is profitable enough to sustain what ever lost this little portion, Chelsea, is operating at. Will they than say chelsea should be dissolve or will they change the rule for qualification? If the FA don't have a problem with chelsea, Manu, City, and they finish in the top four will UEFA than say they are not operating within means and ban them from the CL. without these clubs will the CL be successful? UFEA has to be careful, because these type of things I believe should come from a country's FA and not UFEA.

i just read that eduardo could get banned!! like WTF!! yea he dived and i hate to see that. even if it was to get a winning goal for us i would feel like we didn't deserve it! but why start on eduardo. diving has been going on for ages and platini is guna pull up on it now. this is such shit because there is no way he would try this crap with ferguson because he would stir it and twist it till platini looked the bad guy! he wouldn't go after chelski cause there a big money club. my proof been united had ronaldo and nothing was done. that man done more diving than micheal phelps!

OT but I don't think Edurado will be banned. Otherwise UEFA will open a full can of worm and they will be obligated to review every alleged dive in the CL games. I don't think that's the route they wanna take.

They'll never ban Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea and/or Real Madrid - the cup would just crumble without 4 of it's biggest teams in it who' just go off and form their own competition.
The TV companies wouldnt pay the same money to show AZ Alkmaar vs. Club Bruge in the Champs League final so EUFA would be the onles losing out. Sorry Mr Platini, as annoying as it is, the clubs have the upper hand.
